Um, Happy New Year?
4/02/2009Hello, personal echochamber. Been a while since I hollered into your depths…not yet once in this glorious Year of Our Lord Obama have I come around. Instead, this page has been little more than a repository for tweets, thanks to what some might say has become an inordinate fondness for them. I defend completely my right to tweet whenever, however, and under what conditions of mental adroitness the inclination strikes me, I must admit that – short of saving a few good links and fallen-Pepysian daily dross – it hardly makes for toothsome reading.
Thus, once more unto the breach. Seeing as I have already once repudiated Twitter and Tumblr as technological bootstraps, I hereby foreswear all further declarations on what this blog should take.
I resign myself to the fact that it is a personal blog, unanchored by topical or ideological focus even in its name, and that I should resign and free myself to treating it as such; that is to say: entirely subject to my whim. If I leave it alone (I am now twice tempted to refer to it as “her”, because obviously this little endeavor has as much anthropomorphizable value as a ship or The Grey Lady) then it reverts to what it has been most recently – a Tweetbox. If load it with webvideos, blithely reblogged interphemera and other things better tumbled, so be it. If between all this I manage to, as now, toss in a few hundred words of self-indulgence, then good for me. You, echohamber, will congratulate by ringing with my voice, though it fails to ping across the web.
Somehow, I managed to get up, make tea and toast, and then write this before 8am – an hour that I have not seen displayed on a clock in many, many years, Even if the tea was weak, and this is drivel, both are heartening in their way. Here’s wishing myself luck.
Also: Google attests that there is no instance of “interphemera” in all its godlike memory; in the off chance it ever shows up elsewhere, you heard it here first. “Digiphemera” has 20 hits, but I prefer to cite the web, rather than digital media writ large, as the true generator of cultural flotsam.
