According Sun Productions Entertainment, Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith announced that Overbrook Entertainment to develop the new reality show to find the next best DJ.

“We have been working on this show for over a year and we wanted to partner with the right people,” Cowell said in a statement. “DJs are the new rock stars; it feels like the right time to make this show.” Pinkett-Smith adds, “This show will comb the world to find a new breed of talent.”

The DJ culture is has gone mainstream, so it should come to no surpise the next hot reality show would be based on the growing popularity of the DJ culture. From Usher partnering with David Guetta and new artist, Calvin Harris, hitting the charts with Rihanna - AVICII, Swedish House Mafia, and afrojack, the decision for this new reality show was a no brainer.

The pair will be teaming up to judge a reality DJ competition show. “The combination of Will Smith’s charming personality and Simon Cowell blunt and brutally honest commentary, could be a recipe for success.”

Sitting at your computer, looking through your Popular Screensavers, you find yourself wondering what it would be like to lay on the beach – The beach like the one in your Popular Screensavers database. The white sandy beaches, the palm trees, and coconut water has you daydreaming about vacation. The only thing stopping you is affordably. However, studies show that using your income tax return can be an affordable way to save for vacation.

Traditionally, when we think about our income taxes we get a headache; however, this year, think of it as an inspiration for to go on the vacation you’ve always wanted. According to a poll from the Los Angeles Times, everyone is does it (well maybe not everyone, but everyone should). The poll state that among a sample of nearly 1,000 people, 57 percent said part of their tax refund would be used for a trip.

According to another survey, the top destination place for Americans is Australia, followed closely by, Italy, Ireland, New Zealand and Mediterranean cruises. Domestic travelers were interested in visiting places like Florida, California and New York. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reports that the average refund for 2010 tax returns is 3,070— Sounds like plenty to get a vacation fund started.

Energy Education, which builds customized programs for clients who want to reduce their carbon footprint, recently released some energy conservation tips for these hot summer months. These sunny summer days surely inspire you to turn your air conditioner on full force, but before you do, make sure to check your air conditioning filter. Additionally, if there’s anything blocking your air conditioning vents, move the object out of the way so the air can flow correctly. You should also take advantage of ceiling fans, which produce a “wind chill” effect and make the temperature feel cooler.

As always, you should make sure all electronics and lights are off when you leave for work in the morning, or when you just leave a room. To reduce heat in the home, make sure windows have drapes and blinds, and that these are shut during the sunniest parts of the day to keep rooms cooler. Also, be sure to check that windows and doors are insulated completely — cool air can escape through small spaces and hike up your cooling costs!

Finally, you should do chores like washing and drying clothes or cooking during the cooler parts of the day. These activities tend to use appliances that become hot while in use, so doing them when the sun is at its peak is not the best idea. Energy Education, with its tips to stay cool and earth-friendly, provides clients a way to help the environment — and their wallets.

The TeenScreen National Center for Mental Health Checkups at Columbia University recently put more of its training and development materials online for its Schools and Communities Programs. TeenScreen is expecting that the increased availability of these online materials will spark more awareness about adolescent mental health issues and encourage middle and high school to set up screening programs. Currently, TeenScreen has over 2,000 sites in 46 states nationwide, but is hoping to increase that number in the future with the addition of its online tools.

The executive director of TeenScreen Laurie Flynn believes that adolescence is the proper time to begin addressing mental health issues, as half of all mental disorders start by age 14, according to research from the National Institute of Mental Health. If there is an ability to identify mental health problems and treat them from an early age, long-term side effects can more easily be avoided.

TeenScreen, a non-profit health initiative affiliated with the Columbia University Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, was launched 10 years ago after research from Columbia University indicated that mental health screening was effective and accurate in teens. Though TeenScreen was first put into practice in communities, it expanded its outreach in 2009 to include primary health care professionals, as new expert guidelines recommended depression screening as part of medical care.

The Squirrel Machine is always up-to-date on the latest entertainment news, and its most recent story reveals that James Spader may replace Steve Carell’s character on “The Office.” The comedy series will begin its eighth season in the fall, and is part of NBC’s Thursday night comedy line-up. The network announced it would renew its comedy block for the upcoming fall season. Other than “The Office,” Thursday nights on NBC consist of three more comedies, “30 Rock,” “Community” and “Parks and Recreation.”

“30 Rock” is the brainchild of “Saturday Night Live’s” Tina Fey, who is the executive producer and plays the lead role in the series, Liz Lemon. Lemon is the head writer of a live, sketch-comedy weekly show (based on her experiences at “SNL”) who must deal with her crackpot group of writers as well as her boss, Jack, played by Alec Baldwin. Fey’s co-star on “SNL” and long-time friend Amy Poehler is the lead in “Parks and Recreation,” which also features a mockumentary style like “The Office.”

“Community” stars Joel McHale, who also hosts “The Soup.” His character, Jeff Winger, a former lawyer who returns to community college after he is disbarred because it is revealed that his bachelor’s degree is fabricated.

Neither “Outsourced” nor “Perfect Couples” were picked up for an additional season.

An article on Newport Business News reveals that hit reality series “Mob Wives,” produced by Ben Silverman, will return for a second season. The show profiles four women whose husbands or fathers have faced some kind of incarceration for mob-related activities, whether it be drug dealing or bank robberies to actually heading up major crime families. VH1 also renewed the reality show “Love and Hip Hop,” which tells the story of four women who, through either their husbands or their careers, are connected to the hip-hop world.

Reality programming blew up on the TV scene in the late 90s when shows like “Survivor” and “Big Brother” became popular. Since then, some networks have almost dedicated their entire line-ups to reality shows. MTV’s “Jersey Shore” and “16 and Pregnant” have brought controversy, but also big ratings for the network. Bravo has also boasted hit reality programming, like “Top Chef” and “Project Runway,” both of which have been nominated for Emmys.

To respond to reality TV’s growing popularity, the Emmy Awards added a category for Outstanding Reality Program in 2001 (Fox’s “American High” won the award). In 2003, the awards show added a category to differentiate between informational and competition reality programs titled Outstanding Reality-Competition Program. The Emmy Awards also added a category for best host in 2008. “Survivor’s” Jeff Probst has won the award for best host all three years in a row.

The Squirrel Machine featured new red carpet trends from the MTV Movie Awards, which featured stars flaunting mini-dresses that were embellished with anything from studs to mirrors to safety pins. Most of us, though, have trouble wearing these extreme fashions in the real (non-celeb) world. Well, clothing retailers have taken notice and have begun making apparel that tones down some of the hottest trends, like embellishment.

The sequin trend has hit mainstream stores like Urban Outfitters, and not just with attire (the retailer makes a sequin pillow for $32). The hipster haven also boasts studded tops, bags and sandals. Even traditionally conservative clothing suppliers like The Gap have taken the trend in stride. The Gap’s online store has a nude sequin jacket (and it’s now on sale, so grab it up quick!). Ann Taylor, known for keeping to conservative styles, has a shimmery sequin tank (but at $118, you might want to go with the more affordable shimmery sequin mini skirt, on sale for $79.99).

Discount fast-fashion clothing stores Forever 21 and H&M also feature a host of embellished merchandise, perfect for a fashionista on a budget. Remember, though, when you’re wearing embellished items, don’t overdo it! Less is more when it comes to studs and sequins. Unless, of course, you’re strutting your stuff on the red carpet.

What do I know about mixed martial arts? An article on Babbitts Sports Center about Hamed Wardak and his interest in mixed martial arts led me to ask myself that exact question. Mixed martial arts (MMA) is often known as cage fighting or ultimate fighting. It’s a full combat sport that allows an array of fighting techniques and skills to be used during competitions. The sport’s roots can be traced back to contests that took place during the early 1900s, in Europe and Japan. MMA didn’t gain popularity in the United States, though, until 1993, when Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter Royce Gracie won the first Ultimate Fighting Championship tournament, sparking a new interest in martial arts.

If you’re interested in getting started as an MMA fighter, the first thing you’ll need is a proper workout outfit. Hamed Wardak’s Ludus Athletics provides a wide assortment of athletic wear for both men and women—from tank tops to sweatshirts to gym pants and shorts. His collection also features accessories, including bags, beanies and hats. The pieces sell out quickly, so stop by the online store today!

But maybe you’re not into fashion or pop culture. Maybe you’re into beer.

In that case, the National Magazine Exchange can still help you. Beer magazines such as All About Beer, Ale Street News, Zymurgy and Brew Your Own all strive to teach readers about the complexities of beer, how to brew your own batch at home and what makes one particular brew better than all the rest.

The latest issue of Beer Magazine features an article that’s perfect to kick off summer—“Summer Games: Play these with a Beer in Hand.” Another article, “The Pale Ale Challenge,” tests 9 beers but there can only be one winner. You’ll have to subscribe to find out. What are you waiting for?
